Obesity is wired in the brain

An international study has found that a variation in a gene that is active in the central nervous system is linked to higher risk for
obesity.
The new study, conducted by Robert Kaplan, Ph.D., associate professor of epidemiology & population health and his U.S. and European colleagues, adds to evidence that genes influence appetite and that the brain plays a key role in obesity.
In the study, the researchers found that people who have inherited the gene variant NRXN3 have a 10-15 per cent increased risk of being obese compared with people who do not have the variant.

Michael Jackson Dies Of Cardiac Arrest

Michael Jackson died today after suffering a heart attack.
TMZ reports that Michael Jackson has just died. Michael was rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart attack earlier this afternoon.
Paramedics responded to his Holmby Hills home after Michael went into cardiac arrest. Reports indicate that he was dead when the paramedics arrived. Paramedics attempted to get his pulse back but were not able to revive him.
Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II. Read more

What are Mouth Sores? Oral Canker Sores, Mouth Ulcers

A mouth sore or canker sore is a shallow and painful ulcer in the mouth cavity (inside of the mouth). Mouth sores are also known as aphthous ulcers and can occur on the sides of the mouth cavity (inside of the cheek), under or on the tongue or inner lip. The condition of multiple, recurring mouth sores is medically referred to as aphthous stomatitis.
The inner lining of the mouth (buccal mucosa) is a thin epithelial layer (mucus membrane) and is susceptible to damage – infection, irritation and injury. The mouth is teeming with several species of bacteria which can cause secondary infection of a mouth ulcer and this will prolong the ulceration or aggravate the pain and inflammation. Once formed, mouth ulcers are prone to constant irritation and injury due to the the daily activities associated with the mouth - eating, drinking and talking. Read more
